Sorry Salt Lake City...

...We tried visiting your churches, tabernacles and religious monuments and it just wasn't doing it for me. I can't get interested in that stuff unless it is at least 250 years old. The tabernacle sort of looked like a bigger version of the church attached to my Grammar School.

That said...we stopped by a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives spot called Moochies for some fantastic sandwiches and we walked around the city proper for about an hour before ditching the downtown area and driving out to the lake for a "dip".

Let me tell you a little something about the great "Salt Lake". It smells like death. Not the crisp, pungent smell of death you might get in a morgue or mortuary...no...it smells like the rotting, disgusting, abusive smell of death you could only imagine existed in the barns of plague-striken feudal Europe. I'm not sure if something died and washed up on the shores where we were swimming or if it normally smells that bad. If it is just par for the course, It sort of makes sense now why the city was built about 20 miles away. Once my central nervous system successfully gave up on trying to communicate the horrible smell to my brain, we braved the brine shrimp and mud bars to take a dip. I have to admit, the novelty of floating without having to tread water was pretty cool. We also caught a pretty spectacular rainbow while we were there (see photos).

Once we were showered and our swim clothes were properly quarantined in the cargo bin, we decided to blow off returning to Salt Lake and head up to Park City to check out the Olympic village. While we were driving around exploring the city, we stumbled upon a free concert up on the slopes of the Canyons Ski Resort. It was a great little detour and successfully gave us something to do on a cool summer Saturday night in Utah.

We pulled back into Salt Lake around 10pm and got some rest in anticipation to the long drive to San Francisco that was awaiting us the next morning.

P.S. My favorite street sign so far this trip was seen in downtown Salt Lake by Temple Square.

"Falcon Bird Watch Area. Be prepared to stop."

Because you just never know when an unhooded loose falcon is going to land on your face and tear your eyes out. I think New York City could use more birds of prey roosting above the streets. Any thoughts?
