Yesterday we took off from Salt Lake City for the final push before reaching San Francisco. We did over 5,300 miles already prior to leaving for San Fran and yesterday's drive put us over the 6,000 mile mark.
Normally, a big driving day like this wouldn't yield an eventful blog post...but it's not every day you get to pop your car up onto the Bonneville Salt Flats where the World Land Speed Record was set and drive 140mph on a perfectly flat 10 mile bed of salt.
It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen! Ever since I first got my license, I've wanted to race on the Bonneville Speedway. I did 4 passes in total.
Pass # 1 - Trial Run
I had to get a good feel for the terrain and make sure there were no uneven patches that I needed to watch out for.
Top speed: ~110mph
Soundtrack: Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick

Pass # 2 - Open her up a bit
I now knew the distance I was dealing with and I was ready to give it a go.
Top Speed: ~125 mph
Soundtrack: Highway to the Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
Pass # 3 - 1/5 the speed of sound
Let's do this!
Top Speed: ~140 mph!!!
Soundtrack: Kickstart My Heart - Mötley Cru

(Fast forward to the last minute or so...)
Pass # 4 - Victory Lap
After changing my shorts and cleaning up a bit, we took a leisurely lap around the flats back to the paved roadway.
Top Speed: 100mph
Soundtrack: Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick and the Top Gun Anthem

My phone ran out of space so some of the videos got a little messed up.
The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. We made it into San Francisco around 10:30pm and then Brian started packing for his flight home.
We are moving into a new phase of the summer of DeFeo now. Stay Tuned!
