Leaving Las Vegas

Day 3 in Vegas was another fun filled day in and around the strip. I should probably call this our "Gourmet Day" because Michael and I wined and dined like Royalty.

First, we got up and went to this great breakfast spot in Henderson. Fresh Bagels and lox and biscuits. It was fantastic.

Next stop was the Atomic Testing Museum and Area 51 center. The museum only recently opened and had a ton of exhibits and information to explore. Considering my unnatural love for Enrico Fermi, I think it was the perfect destination.

We then went back to Michael's house and broke out some cheese an crackers and cracked open one of the bottles of wine I bought in Napa. The Cuvaison Chardonnay was fantastic.

Next we had dinner reservations at Charlie Parker's Aureole at the Mandalay Bay. It has almost become a tradition that Mike and I eat here whenever I am in town. They put together a great meal and the service is always spectacular. Below are some pictures of their 3 story wine cellar where a female trapeze artist suspended from the ceiling fetches your bottle for you. They call them the "Wine Angels". We had a Hess Mt Veeder Pinot with dinner that was very good.

At the end of the night, I felt like I needed to be burped. I was so stuffed. I am like a gold fish, I'm fairly sure I could eat until my stomach explodes.

We made it home and both went to bed in a food coma.

That brings us to today. I am updating this blog entry from my tent under the stars outside Flagstaff, AZ. I'm at about 7,200 feet right now and we'll be pushing up to 11,400 tomorrow before making camp again. Sunday morning we will tag the summit of Humphrey's at over 12,000 feet. We will then hike back to camp at 11,400 and decide whether we want to wait until Monday morning to hike out or make the push Sunday afternoon.

I will post another update either Sunday or Monday depending on whether or not I have a signal up on the mountain or not.

Stay tuned...we are getting into some serious altitude now.
